Summer Solstice at Storm King

Storm King Art Center: Taking the Summer by Storm

No contributor

A day that never seems to end prompts the need to celebrate. And Saturday June 18, the Storm King Art Center did just that with its annual Summer Solstice Celebration. The open-air sculpture park hosted an al fresco benefit dinner for over 300 guests.

Storm King’s President John Stern, Director and Chief Curator David Collens, and Curator Nora Lawrence hosted the evening under the summer stars. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres accompanied a viewing of the exhibitions “Dennis Oppenheim: Terrestrial Studio” and “Outlooks: Josephine Halvorson.”

The bold colors from Oppenheim’s exhibition inspired the farm-to-table Southwestern dinner. The select group enjoyed the delicious meal designed by Food Network chef Amanda Freitag and Shelley Boris of Fresh Company. Notable guests from the art world included Amy Plumb Oppenheim, Doug and Mike Starn, Chakaia Booker, and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.
