Inspired by a 1975 Australian cult film involving three young girls and a picnic, disappearing acts and trances, mystery and daunting beauty, designer Jenny Packham presented an ethereal collection with obvious nods to the seventies, and a slight presence of twenties silhouettes for spring/summer 2014 at New York Fashion Week.
An early seventies take on austere Edwardian attire, chiffon, silk, and organza, gowns were airy and floaty with Swarovski beading and pearls, jumpsuits were bedecked with stripes and checks, and sweet little daytime dresses were finished off with satin ribbons at the waist, referencing romance and whimsy. Muddy red, marine blues, and kiwi green tones were played down a bit with more delicate hues of silver and powdery pink. The result is a collection perfect for a garden party held on an English estate.
