Jil Sander SS21

Wearable Silhouettes from Jil Sander SS21 Radiate Positivity and Patience

Jil Sander introduced its Spring/Summer 2021 collection through an elegant video work captured by Stephen Kidd. A dark, cavernous space and a soundtrack of strings and soothing, fluid vocalizations set the mood for the new collection, which emerged look by look, bathed in white like the light at the end of a tunnel.

The tone was one of positivity, patience, and radiance, executed with pristine details, delicate nuances, and useful, wearable silhouettes. Airy, feminine cuts in light materials like cotton, recycled polyester, and silk complemented a play on layering in suits with crepe sleeves and long, wide pants, skirts worn over trousers in semi-sheer materials, and long coats overlapping long bottoms or tall boots.

Rich natural hues like butter, burgundy, powder, and deep blue added a comforting sense of familiarity to modern styles, including a mock neck plissé dress, a structured tunic worn over a streamline skirt, and a crisp leather blouse with a matching skirt. The collection was made complete by its details—including elements like braided belts on trench coats, intricate lace overlays, soft and slouchy handbags (like a chain link handbag or an oversized leather tote), darted seams on bodices, long strings of fabric flowers worn as scarves, and footwear like tall, leather square-toed boots, wedge sandals, and glittering mules.
