For this week’s Friday Fête, Whitewall takes you through some of this week’s events, including celebrations with Cartier, Gucci, Sotheby’s, and more.
On Wednesday in Paris at The Gallery of Mineralogy and Geology, Cartier hosted a special dinner to celebrate its newest jewelry collection—Les Galaxies de Cartier. The latest collection explores the cosmos of space with four sources of inspiration: stars in orbit; a fractal meteor; the alignment of the plants; and Earth from the sky. Hosted by the brand’s International President and CEO, Cyrille Vigneron, the experimental dinner, set by scenographer Charles Kaisin, was joined by a musical performance by Jackson and his Computer Band for guests like Tilda Swinton, Iris Van Herpen, Sofia Coppola, and Alber Elbaz.
Also on Wednesday, but in New York, Gucci hosted British documentary photographer Martin Parr at its downtown Gucci Wooster location for a book signing of WORLD (The Price of Love), the brand’s latest limited-edition publication. The book features images Parr shot of the Gucci Cruise 2019 collection in Cannes and is available now through the end of 2019 at the Gucci Wooster Bookstore.
Last night at The Frick Collection in New York, Sotheby’s, and Victoria Beckham hosted a private cocktail reception, dinner, and exhibition preview for a group of invited guests. The evening began with a reception in Sotheby’s galleries, where The Frick Collection’s Young Fellows and Sotheby’s Young Collectors enjoyed champagne and hors d’oeuvres. After, guests made their way to a private dinner hosted by the Frick’s Chief Curator, Xavier F. Solomon, in the Directors Dining Room on the second floor. The true treat was a special preview of “The Female Triumphant,” which is now on view in the Sotheby’s Masters Week exhibitions through February 1.
Also last night, The Winter Show hosted its annual Young Collectors Night at the Park Avenue Armory. The night celebrated its new Director, Helen Allen, as well as acted as a benefit for the East Side House Settlement. Joining together over 700 young art enthusiasts for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music by DJ Harley Viera-Newton, the event was also a private viewing of The Winter Show—its 65th Anniversary Sapphire Jubilee. The night was hosted by Honorary Chair Zac Posen, the eponymous designer and Creative Director of the Brooks Brothers women’s collection and Wendy Goodman, the Chair of the Interior Design Committee and Design Editor of New York magazine.
