In Tokyo this month, Mikimoto is presenting an exhibition celebrating 125 years since the jewelry house’s founder, Kokichi Mikimoto, successfully created the world’s first cultured pearl. Featuring a number of interactive installations, the show “Feel the Pearl” takes its visitors on an immersive journey of the pearl—from its early formation, up to the creation of the jewelry house’s coveted designs.
First, a virtual reality video takes viewers down under the sea, and a display of mother shells and rare pearls engages visitors while sharing information on the history of the pearl and its formation process. Finally for the highlight of the exhibition, guests will find the exquisite rainbow of pearls that make up the brand’s high jewelry collections, glowing inside an all-black room of mirrors, where each design shines in its own vitrine.

“Feel the Pearl” is on view at Mikimoto Hall until September 5.
