The 2023 edition of Watches & Wonders is off to an electric start, championing globally renowned watchmakers and their meticulous creations through April 2 in Geneva. Here, we’re bringing you front-and-center to get a closer look at the innovations from brands like Rolex and Hermès.
Hermès celebrates the joyful spontaneity of time with the expressionistic Arceau Grand carrosse royal. Meticulously hand-drawn by Danish artist Claus Rye, the exclusive timepiece is inspired by Rye’s own original motif which grazes one of the brand’s iconic silk scarves. In enchanting shades of blue and gray, a team of four spirited horses takes charge of a grand royal carriage in a flurry of movement, emotion, and deft artistry. Encircled by a 41 mm white gold case, offset by elegant stirrup shapes, the conversation piece is set on a shining mother-of-pearl dial. The artwork’s intense process involves over 20 layers of color—each necessitating its own finalization in a 90-degree kiln. The magnificent work is rounded out by non-reflective sapphire crystal glass and an Abyss blue alligator strap.
In a vivacious take on the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual in Celebration evokes the effervescence of glistening waves, sparkling champagne, and beaming sunshine. Multi-colored bubbles of pink, blue, yellow, coral, and green ebb and flow on a serene dial of turquoise blue lacquer. 18-ct white gold hands and markers spark every hour as an opportunity for life and light. An enduring Chromalight in luminous blue shines over the artwork, as well as onto the bracelet of polished Oystersteel, offering a life-long timepiece of perpetually pleasant skies.
