Alaïa-Adrian: Masters of Cut

Curated by fashion historian Olivier Saillard and organized for the space by Rafael Gomes, “Masters of Cut” is a compilation of garments by the late designers Azzedine Alaïa and Gilbert Adrian. A sculptor-turned-designer from Tunisia, Alaïa is known for dressing supermodels like Naomi Campbell in stunning and fitted designs that accentuated the female form. Alaïa was an avid collector of things created by Adrian, who was the head costumer for MGM during Hollywood’s Golden Age between the years of 1928—1941, dressing stars like Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford throughout his career. When exhibited together, their designs reveal an intertwined story of enduring legacies who were icons of their respective times.
