The Victoria & Albert Museum presents “Kimono: Tokyo to Catwalk,” a new exhibition centred around the kimono. The show counters the perception of the kimono as traditional, timeless and unchanging, by presenting the garment as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion. Viewers will find rare kimonos from the 17th and 18th century displayed for the first time in the UK, together with iconic film and performance costumes and fashions by major designers. The exhibition also explores the kimono’s recent reinvention on the streets of Japan with work by new contemporary designers and stylists.
