On view at Night Gallery is “It would be very glamorous to be reincarnated as a great big ring on Liz Taylor’s finger,” a solo exhibition of new sculptures by Lucile Littot. Her work is informed by ancient and contemporary mythologies and depicts fantastical doglike creatures, which find the presence of the archetypal within Old Hollywood glamour, kitsch, Expressionism and psychedelia. The whimsical elements of Littot’s imagination are visible in her works, from the echoes of Chagall’s magical creatures to the inclusion of materials like sugar in her formulas. Despite their fanciful qualities, however, the works suggest the desolate dreamscape that defines a centuries-old drive for perfection.
