A collaboration between the City of Miami Beach and the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA), “No Vacancy” is an art competition that activates the public spaces of Miami’s hotels with site-specific projects by ten artists and collectives. On view at ten hotels—including Avalon Hotel, Plymouth Hotel Miami, The Confidante Miami Beach, Kimpton Palomar South Beach, Catalina Hotel and Beach Club, Lennox Miami Beach, Riviera Hotel South Beach, Hotel Croydon, Betsy Hotel, South Beach, and the Hyatt Centric South Beach—the participating artists were chosen from submissions made in February of this year, including works like Coral Morphologic’s The Coral City Camera, which combines art and science in a live-stream of a coral research site and a living, interactive installation entitled Akousmaflore by the French studio Scenocosme. Other artists include Federico Uribe, Kerry Phillips, Die-Cast, Anna Kell, Karelle Levy, Jillian Mayer, Sterling Rook, and Birgit Rathsmann. The artworks will be judged by The Bass Museum of Art’s Silvia Karman Cubiña, Dennis Scholl of Oolite Arts, and Peréz Art Museum Miami’s Maria Elena Ortiz, after which one Juried Prize winner will be announced on December 4 and a Public Prize recipient will be revealed at the close of the exhibition, on December 12.
