Thu Van Tran: Novel Without a Title

Kunsthaus Baselland presents “Novel Without a Title,” Thu Van Tran’s first solo exhibition and presentation of her work in Switzerland. For many years, the artist has been working with photography, drawing, video, sculpture, and installation, which she brings together in situ to form a grand narrative, raising questions about our ability to remember the history of countries, materials, rituals, and legacies.“Novel Without a Title,” is an explicit reference to the Vietnamese writer Duong The Huong’s novel Novel Without a Name and questions our ability or inability to narrate and transmit stories and tragedies. The exhibition explores speech, or rather speechlessness, and features older material as well as a new complex of works, allowing a profound immersion into Van Tran’s multifaceted, highly poetic oeuvre.
