On view at Hamburger Banhof is “The Horse with Eye Blinders,’’ Paris-based artist Xinyi Cheng’s first institutional solo exhibition. In the exhibition, viewers will find around 30 paintings and 6 photographs—including some new works—often portraying male figures. Alongside individual portraits, the artist also paints her models interacting with each other, focusing on enigmatic actions, tender gestures, intimate moments exchanged between them. Cheng often surrounds the figures with monochromatic backgrounds, creating the impression that their bodies are emerging from the surface of the painting.
