Committed to bringing positive change to the fashion industry, Gucci announced its second class of North America Changemaker Scholars today. The academic scholarship of up to $20,000 is offered to 22 aspiring fashion creatives, currently studying at community colleges, undergraduate colleges, or universities, in addition to mentorship and internship opportunities at Gucci America.
The 2020 inaugural Changemakers Scholarship program achieved huge success, helping recipients from 14 different schools across North America to pursue their career in fashion and the creative arts. Gucci has also commissioned works for various programs to create opportunities for Scholar recipients.
“After being granted the opportunity to be one of the recipients of the Gucci Changemakers Scholars award, I found an unbelievable amount of stress taken off my shoulders. And without a shadow of a doubt, the program provided me with the creative freedom to express myself without the burden of tuition during my first year as an art major,” said Miles Richards, a 2020 and 2021 Gucci Changemakers Scholar.
Recipients not only seek to advance their career, but also strive to build a community of creatives that support each other. One scholar from the 2020 program aspired to start a rental studio and provide resources to fellow photographers and fashion designers. The program joins young people with unique backgrounds and outlooks, thus strengthening the sense of community within the industry.
“Their diverse points of views embody the future of not only fashion, but creative industries as a whole,” said Antoine Phillips, Vice President of Brand and Culture Engagement.
