Milan Menswear SS24: Missoni, Etro, and More

Elegance and Versatility for Summer Style

Over the weekend in Milan, fashion houses presented their latest menswear designs for Spring/Summer 2024. Here, we’re spotlighting warm-weather debuts from Missoni, Tod’s, Etro, Brunello Cucinelli, Kiton, and Canali.

Missoni

Casual, stylish, easygoing, comfort treated as a state of mind—this is the tranquil language and imagery embodied by Missoni’s Spring/Summer 2024 menswear debuts. Presented in an airy selection of natural tones, the house brought us a collection of liberated silhouettes perfect for the heat. Styles ranged from elevated loungewear for everyday happenings (think matching knits and printed pants with tees and cardigans) to thoughtful ensembles for the office. Evening attire evoked a sense of effortlessness that was ultimately cool without seeming too informal—like a dashing suit with shorts in beige, featuring a nude chevron duster and chic sunglasses. The iconic Missoni stripes and zigzags were omnipresent, seen on soft knits, tees, button-ups, and summer suiting, also accompanied by several iterations in argyle and plaid. Select garments even featured a nonchalant “Missoni” scribed into the lines of the legendary pattern, which lingered on our minds like a mantra of relaxation for the sunny season.

Tod’s

The pristine greens of a traditional Italian garden—the outdoor space at Milan’s Villa Necchi—framed the finely crafted garments of Tod’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Sophisticated clothing that could transition from business to pleasure were imagined in warm tones of brown, yellow, and ecru, highlighting the house’s signature leather and suede alongside seasonal fabrics like structured cotton and nylon. Noteworthy looks such as a short-sleeved button-up featuring a subtle color block effect, paired with khakis and woven leather T-strap sandals with closed toes rejoiced in the brand’s innate sense of peaceful opulence. An earthy bomber with relaxed trousers, smart loafers, and a petite leather satchel, as well as a short-sleeved leather button-up in luminous cream, induced visions of coastal drives in classic convertibles and business lunches al fresco.

Etro

Creative Director Marco De Vincenzo invoked a chance encounter with Cesare Ripa’s dazzling seventeenth century book Iconology for the new men’s spring summer 2024 collection: Etro Allegories. The decoding of ancient and medieval symbolism provided fertile ground for a provocative show, celebrating fashion as one of the most compelling forms of human communication. There was an effortless sensuality and a warm, multicultural spirit in each and every runway look. A shining gold football jersey was juxtaposed with satin stripes, ornate jacquard, and historical imagery. Oversized, elegant blazers in hypnotic diamond and floral patterns were worn over sheer, lace tanks, allowing skin—and soul—to breathe. Loose, perfectly draped jeans, trousers, and shorts, paired with tops in lush fabrics and earthy-hued patterns, moved with the body in freedom and grace. Blanket-like jackets and kimonos, embellished with skillfully woven or printed flowers, fringe, and geometric shapes unfolded as contemporary beacons of mystique and signs of our ever–connected odyssey across space and time.

Brunello Cucinelli

The relaxed luxury and picturesque beauty of the French Riviera set the perfect scene for Brunello Cucinelli’s spring summer 2024 collection, aptly titled Bohemian Evolution. Organic, sandworn shades of turquoise, raspberry, and mauve evolved into rich brown, gray, and prussian blue, for soft and sleek day to night ensembles, whether on land or at sea. In a distinctive show of effortless yet creative combinations, sartorial blazers found length and sporty jackets and trench coats were widened, draping easily over cozy, striped-t shirts and sturdy, woven belts. Leather and knitwear was light as a feather for superb comfort and grandeur on sun-soaked holidays. Crisp and simply-patterned suits gave way to re-envisioned loafers and driving shoes, skillfully crafted to take you from one unforgettable adventure to another in cinematic style.

Kiton

A satisfying evolution in form and material was the highlight of the Kiton spring summer 2024 collection. The purity and versatility of the iconic brand is felt now more than ever, with an ardent dedication to the use of majestic yarns, cottons, linens, and Japanese nylon in order to create fresh and diverse looks to fit all personalities and moments. Cloud-like cashmere polo shirts were paired with composed yet carefree outerwear and elegant trousers. Lightweight wool jumpers, reversible padded jackets, and jacquard suiting were endlessly charming in serene hues of ocean blue, sunshine yellow, and earthy beige. Filmy leather jackets, short-pile chenille, and performance wool stood out from the crowd. Footwear met many needs, from uber comfortable slippers to casual Capri loafers to chic espadrilles. The beachwear collection was on point, boasting a refreshing orange, with timeless collared shirts in the Neapolitan majolica motif.

CANALI SS24

Canali

In an age where unity and gentility can often seem like ideals of the past, the CANALI spring summer 2024 collection upholds these qualities as the very pillars of our future. Titled Mediterranean Craft, garments were created with the utmost care, with a focus on simplified supply chains, sustainable construction, and environmentally friendly modes of production. Envisioned to fit the styles of men of all ages, the presentation was a fluid mix of new textures, patterns, and contemporary shapes. Reversible checked coats, color block blousons, and full trousers were effervescent and joyful in melodic shades of sky blue, lavender, and sunflower. The art of masculinity was celebrated in finely-crafted pieces such as the crocheted trucker jacket, voile shirt, and velvet slippers. Recycled fabrics, organic knits, flower motifs on shirts and scarves, and woven raffia belts, reminded us that mother nature’s artistry, melded with fine Italian craftsmanship, is a match made in heaven.
