The Casual Grandeur with Gucci, Missoni, Bottega Veneta, and More in Milan

Fairy-tale-like settings, illustrious histories, and symbolic motifs sparked a wondrous and wearable Milan Fashion Week. Here, Whitewall focuses on finely crafted presentations by Bottega Veneta, Ferragamo, Gucci, MM6 Maison Margiela, and Missoni.

As another irresistible edition of Milan Fashion Week comes to a ceremonious close, Whitewall dives into the decadent details of Spring/Summer 2025 shows by Bottega Veneta, Ferragamo, Gucci, and more.

Bottega Veneta Unearths The Ark for Summer 2025

“WOW!” was the vivacious artistic theme of the Bottega Veneta Summer 2024 presentation. “It was the idea of The Ark: a joyful world with a sense of wonder, populated by friendly companions that make you smile and say ‘wow,’” said ever-inspired Creative Director Matthieu Blazy. “The seats for the show feature 60 animals inspired by the iconic Sacco chair. Crafted entirely in leather, they sit low to the ground, so you have a different perspective when you sit on them—they are both joyful and comfortable! I hope this sense of wonder continues every time people come across them, whether at home or elsewhere.”

This fairy-tale-like setting set the scene for a finely crafted, imaginative runway, where irresistible experimentation with color, texture, and form unfolded. From the seamless, all-leather paillette evening dress to the meticulously tailored grunge flannel shirt, each garment renewed the jubilant sense of playing dress-up with an elevated sense of sophistication. A symbolic adoration of animals was seen in rabbit prints and wandering frogs across clothing and jewelry, while fluffy mules and fringed headdresses urged all to embrace the creative child within.

Ferragamo Creative Director Maximilian Davis is Energized by the Ballet

On the occasion of Milan Fashion Week, the Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2025 runway was unveiled by Creative Director Maximilian Davis. As Whitewall debuts its Fall 2024 Harmony issue cover story with Davis, the visionary revealed an energetic new Ferragamo collection. The maison’s illustrious history with the ballet-inspired a meaningful and glamorous show. Footwear on the catwalk invoked iconic fashion moments like Salvatore Ferragamo’s custom-made ballerina shoes for dancer Rudolf Nureyev in the 1980s. Nureyev’s radiant wardrobe informed a parade of outfits with chic, oversized tailoring and technical embellishments. The spirit and romance of the Caribbean was also conjured with mesmeric craftsmanship and provocatively raw finishes.

Basking in a “Casual Grandeur” with Gucci’s Creative Director Sabato De Sarno

Gucci Creative Director Sabato De Sarno reveled in “Casual Grandeur” for Spring/Summer 2025. Within the legendary Triennale Milano, art and design were juxtaposed in a prismatic new collection. Rich colorways of green, white, orange, gray, and Gucci Rosso Ancora flowed majestically across 1960s-inspired garments. Streamlined shorts, A-line skirts, and sculptural jackets made way for dramatic coats enhanced by precise couture details. High-gloss leather and sizzling moments of lace and lingerie certainly caught our eye, as did the Gucci Flora foulard donned as a headscarf and rejoicing in the original illustrations of Vittorio Accornero de Testa.

“A year later, this collection shows an accomplished journey of construction,” said De Sarno.

“Moment after moment, I have built my ideas for Gucci. A casual grandeur that takes shape through my obsessions—tailoring, lingerie, leather, 60’s silhouettes, all combined with the tireless exploration of the heritage of this brand—and always with an irreverent attitude.”

MM6 Maison Margiela’s Sleek and Straightforward Spring/Summer 2025 Runway

The sleek and straightforward ruled MM6 Maison Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2025 runway, offered warm weather styles to match the beguiling sheen of bare skin. Do-it-yourself inspirations like the knotted t-shirt or the imperfectly painted jeans intermingled with a “sharing is caring” attitude between women’s and men’s pieces. Refreshed shades of white, pistachio, gold, clay, and onyx poured through day-to-night blazers, sheer t-shirts, and baggy jeans. Rustic cowboy boots and Dr. Martens 1460 8-eyelet boots—given an angelic white treatment—rooted looks in strength and style, as did the heartfelt reproduction of the original AIDS message as an enduring, symbolic motif across garments.

Missoni Shines Light on New Dimensions

“Do you see what we see?” queried the Missoni Spring/Summer 2025 catwalk, shining a light on a transcendent new dimension of garments. Each look deftly spoke multiple languages, traveling across time and space to celebrate life’s kaleidoscopic subtitles. Rich primary shades of blue, red, and yellow were mixed and matched with black and white, offering soaring zigzag patterns of ecstasy and adventure. Whether hugging every perfect curve of the human form or flowing freely around it, leggings, dresses, and knitted fur coats were constructed for work and play. Robust tailoring in shoulders, as well as eye-popping architectural design in tops and elongated skirts, were abstract works of wearable art.
